Virtual Neuroscience Lab #1: Cocaine Study [Flexible Version]

DESCRIPTION OF THE COCAINE LAB
Cocaine Lab ImageIn this virtual laboratory, students become neurobiologists and conduct a study on the effects of cocaine on dopamine levels in the brain which in turn effects the behavior of the rats. The data shows that the brain is not effected only when cocaine is in the bloodstream, but it is also effected at other, rather surprising times that may give a clue as to why cocaine addiction is so difficult to beat!

VIDEO INTRODUCTION (2:50)

 Flash Version [recommended]      WMV

Note: It is important that you watch the introductary video immediately before starting the Lab because it contains valuable information needed to successfully complete the lab. We have highlighted particular portions that students have found difficult; including lab navigation, the rat injection procedures and underlying scientific theories. These intro videos may help to serve as a guide and/or a reference as you move through the Virtual Lab. Good Luck!
